One positive feature of the post-crisis global economy is the increase in M&A. Potential business benefits are great, but far too few deliver the sought-after profitability, market share, and increased company momentum. High failure rates, especially with cross-border mergers, happen when incompatibilities surface between the two organizations.

But success can be achieved by investing time, energy and resources into the post-merger integration. Employees of organizations successful over the long termidentify with the new organization and its purpose and potential. They feel responsible for making the new organization a success, and they inspire others to work with them to bring the organization’s potential into being.

DABF and member companies explored important aspects of this process:

  • Positioning strategy: Unite people around a clear direction and values they believe in.
  • Organizational integration: Make sure that the diverse backgrounds of new teams work as a plus, not a negative.
  • Hear from a practitioner: Peter Kürstein, Chairman of Radiometer, shares his extensive experience.
